Is the Path You’re On Actually Yours? Soovanch on Conformity, Comparison and Finding Your Why

We start with how he found his voice. Watching TED Talks had him wondering what those speakers had that he didn’t. An Eventbrite search took him to a Toastmasters club in Harrisdale in July 2024, where he sat in the car park and nearly drove home. His first table topic was about his wardrobe. Now he wants every question going.

Then we get into the five years of reading behind his thinking. He followed it back to the 1800s, through Ralph Waldo Emerson, the New Thought movement and the old Hermetic idea that everything is mental, and kept landing on the same line: you become what you think about. We cover Earl Nightingale’s definition of success, Think and Grow Rich and the Carnegie and Ford story, and a 30 minute recording from the 1950s that changed how he sees everything.

He reckons conformity is a disease and most people are playing follow the follower, so we talk about how to tell whether your path is really yours and why he stopped competing and started creating. To close, the question cards come out and we both have to answer. When we land on who we’d reconnect with if we could, his answer comes with advice I’m stealing: take the people you look up to out for dinner, and bring a notepad.
